How is the magic created? VR Testing
Every performance has a preparation level, or if you want – backstage. That’s the place where we can find an answer for the VR testing mystery. Let’s try to sneak behind the scenes and find out how VR comes to us.
There are different types of testing, today we will look closer to VR application testing. After developers finish their creative job, the application goes to testers. And here fun starts. QA Engineers checking all possible scenario, details, we can say trying to break the application. And all this follows one goal – to deliver perfect piece for the user. Different platform getting ready in a different way, so:
“Traditional” platforms
In this case, it should be a high-end PC, a console like the Xbox or PlayStation. The question for testers is that VR introduces a whole new dimension of devices to test and more moving parts altogether. Let’s say, you need to test that the game shows up accurately on the headset, but also if there is a motion controller device, ensure that it works properly in concert with the VR app to enable a positive user experience.
Mobile platforms
Google Cardboard/ Google Daydream View and Samsung Gear VR represent a new form of VR interaction, in which we can simply use a smartphone with attached device and experience 3D through a VR-enhanced mobile app or site. On one side mobile platform has more basic functions but also more accessible for the masses. For testers, there are fewer components involved, but at the same time, diversity of networks and phone platforms along with battery and power instability creates some difficulties. Mobile users also suffer from more disruptions, such as calls and text messages, which can interfere with the VR experience.
Anyhow, VR testing is fast developing area what just start to grow in a big and complicated system, and right now we can’t talk about actual methods or better ways to solve some problems. From another side, it’s a challenge to invent something extraordinary and to make the important contribution to not yet explored the field. Let’s dare to be first!
